Mobility Spares

Custom Shopify theme development, optimisation and ongoing support.

Discount Scooters are a leading supplier mobility scooter spare parts and accessories. Their previous website was built using the Megento e-commerce platform, but this had become outdated, expensive to maintain, and it's search engine rankings were falling rapidly. The client decided to move to Shopify based on recommendations from several sources, including myself as this would address all of the issues. Shopify would be much easier to maintain and customise to their requirements, and is generally considered a much more user friendly content management system (CMS) than Magento.

A new design was created with a heavy focus on User Experience (UX) for the older audience, and the mobile phone experience was brought up-to-date. A premium Shopify theme was then customised to create the new design.

VAT Exemption System

The main challenge for this project was to create a VAT exemption system which would allow selected customers to purchase qualifying products without being charge VAT on those products. The difficulty was that this was not for all customers and not for all products, and there is no standard way to achieve this in Shopify, other comparable platforms. With a clever use of product variants, a custom process was developed to allow customer to set if they were legally eligible to be exempt from paying the VAT.

Ongoing optimisation and support

A website is never finished, there is always something that can be developed and improved. Since the initial lunch of the new website we have continuously improved both the front end (customer facing) part of the website, as well as the backend administration processes. I've assisted the client with adding improved shipping options, back-in-stock notifications, and new drop-shipped product ranges. I've also helped implement a vastly improved inventory management system which had made the process ordering and receiving goods much more efficient.
